Actor and Females in Cinema Collective (WCC) founding member Rima Kallingal has filed a defamation suit against playback singer Suchitra. Rima has sent a defamation notice to Suchitra after the latter alleged that Rima’s residence become used for a drug-fuelled birthday party. On September three, Rima took to her Instagram platform to term Suchitra’s allegations as “baseless.”

Sexual assault allegations against prominent figures within the Malayalam film industry followed after the Justice Hema Committee report disclosing some shocking important points of crimes against women within the industry were made public.

The report containing shocking accounts of harassment, exploitation, and ill-treatment of women folk professionals took the total industry by storm.

The report become made public on August 19, after redacting the names of witnesses and the accused. It noted that the Malayalam film industry is controlled by about 10 to 15 male producers, directors, and actors who dominate and exert control over the industry.

The Justice K Hema Committee become constituted by the Kerala government after the 2017 assault case of a female actor. It become formed following a petition submitted by the Females in Cinema Collective.
