Amazon Is Making a Change That Will Make Your Shopping Experience Much Easier

It's been well-known for a while now that just about every major company is experimenting with a host of different applications for artificial intelligence. Amazon's latest experiment with the explosive technology revolves around simplifying reviews in order to ease the shopping experience.

The new feature was first spotted by Mark Wieczorek, the chief technology officer at Fortress Brand, who said in a LinkedIn post that "this could be a step towards reducing review moats and guiding customers towards newer (potentially superior) products."

The new AI experiment features a block of text summarizing the reviews of a product. The paragraph carries a note that explains that the information is "AI-generated from the text of customer reviews."

A mobile listing of an air purifier, posted by Wieczorek, said: "This air purifier has received positive feedback from customers in various aspects. Many customers have praised its ability to clear the air and improve air quality, with some even calling it the best air purifying device."

Amazon confirmed that it is testing the feature to CNBC, with spokesperson Lindsay Shanahan stating: "We are significantly investing in generative AI across all of our businesses."

Shanahan did not provide any details about the feature, such as what type of model is being used or how it was trained.

This quieter, less dramatic use of AI comes amid a surge in the technology that is at the center of a fierce debate between researchers, tech executives and politicians over risks, harms, opportunities and regulation.
