Amazon Makes Major Change That Will Shake Up Shopping

Amazon  (AMZN) - Get Free Report appears to be developing a new shopping experience that its customers may soon encounter.

It comes amid some pointed criticism of a specific feature the e-commerce giant has been hearing.

The change involves use of generative AI in Amazon's online store, similar to changes Microsoft  (MSFT) - Get Free Report and Google  (GOOGL) - Get Free Report have been implementing recently.

"EXCLUSIVE: Amazon plans to bring ChatGPT-style product search to its web store, rivaling efforts by Microsoft and Google to weave generative AI into their search engines," wrote Bloomberg in a tweet.

Amazon reportedly revealed its new ambitions in recent job listings, according to Bloomberg.

"One listing seeking a senior software development engineer says the company is 'reimagining Amazon search with an interactive conversational experience designed to help users find answers to questions, compare products and receive personalized suggestions,'" Bloomberg reported.

This comes as the search experience on Amazon's website and app has come under fire from its users for the prevalence of ads and other sponsored content.

"For such a big company Amazon has such an awful search engine and if you then sort by price you get ridiculous results and only a limited amount of results too," wrote Twitter user Lebro (@LebroTweets). "All geared toward making you buy what they want you to buy! Hopefully it improves the situation."

Amazon also recently made news by announcing a change to the final stage of its shipping process.

This involves encouraging customers to pick up their orders from select locations, such as local Whole Foods, Kohl's  (KSS) - Get Free Report and Amazon Fresh stores. It would remove the final step, for Amazon, of doorstep delivery.

To encourage customers to take this step, the e-commerce company is offering a $10 discount for orders of $25 or more.
