Anurag Kashyap Reveals Nuances of His Villainous Role in Bad Cop; Calls His Character Kazbe ‘Very Contrasting’
In Bad Cop, Anurag Kashyap takes on the role of Kazbe, portraying a villain. Here's his take on the character in the Gulshan Devaiah series.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who frequently makes headlines with his statements, is poised to showcase a new persona. Anurag is set to embody the character of Kazbe in his upcoming web series, “Bad Cop.” He will portray a morally ambiguous character, stating that while his character is a villain, “he is not the bad guy all the time.” Elaborating further, he mentioned that his character exhibits various contrasting traits.
In a discussion with News 18, Kashyap revealed that although Kazbe is portrayed as a villain, he harbours emotional connections, particularly with his family. Anurag expressed his fondness for the concept of a character operating from prison yet remaining emotionally invested in his family. He emphasized that despite being a villain, Kazbe’s actions are motivated by his attempts to conduct business and care for his family.
In another interview with the news agency ANI, Anurag provided insights into his character and what viewers can anticipate from the show. Describing Kazbe as a unique villain with a charismatic yet deadly aura, Anurag admitted feeling apprehensive while shooting gore scenes, a departure from his usual filmmaking style. He drew inspiration from several of his previous negative characters to prepare for this role.
Reflecting on his portrayal, Anurag remarked on the challenges of embodying a character like Kazbe, known for his dreadfulness, eccentricity, and villainous nature. Despite his experience creating diverse characters, Anurag found it challenging to portray Kazbe’s ruthlessness and impulsiveness.
Regarding “Bad Cop” and Kazbe, the series introduces Anurag in the role of Kazbe, characterized as quirky, charming, and menacing. Anurag stars alongside Gulshan Devaiah, Harleen Sethi, Saurabh Sachdeva, and Aishwarya Sushmita in this production. Gulshan Devaiah portrays Karan, as a formidable and courageous police officer. Directed by Aditya Datt and scripted by Rensil D’Silva, “Bad Cop” is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on June 21.
