Apple Wants to Change How You Listen to Music, Again

A new standalone app is available, ahead of schedule.

If you are looking to class up your listening habits, or if you want something for your next elegant dinner party, then Apple  (AAPL) - Get Free Report has good news for you.

The tech giant has released Apple Music Classical, an app for listening to classical music. You can download it from the App Store right now, though you will have to get an Apple Music subscription, which costs $10.99 per month.

Apple acquired the classical music streaming service Primephonic in 2021, with the goal of having a classical music-focused app ready by the end of the year, so this is a bit ahead of schedule. 

While you can play all the Claude Debussy you want with the standard Apple Music subscription, the pitch with Apple Music Classical is that “it will be better at handling the complex metadata often associated with classical recordings,” according to The Verge. There will also be expert-curated playlist and composer biographies to help neophytes become Puccini-heads in no time.

The App will have more than 5 million tracks available in the 192 kHz/24 bit hi-res lossless format. There’s a few drawbacks, though as subscribers to Apple Music Voice Plan can’t use Classical, and you won’t be able to download music to listen to offline.
