Asian Games 2023 Day 2 Highlights: India women's cricket team and men's 10m air rifle team strike gold

Asian Games 2023 Day 2 LIVE Updates: India won five medals on official Day 1 of Asian Games Sunday with the women’s 10m Air Rifle Team of Mehuli Ghosh, Ramita Jindal, and Ashi Chouksey winning a silver. The second medal came in rowing with Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh winning the silver in men’s Lightweight Double Sculls.

Two more medals, a silver and a bronze came in rowing, while Ramita added an individual bronze in the 10m Air Rifle individual event. In total India have so far won three silver and two bronze medals.

In rowing, the first medal win came through Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh who clinched silver in the men’s lightweight double sculls event.

The Indian men’s coxed-eight team, comprising Neeraj, Nareskh Kalwaniya, Neetish Kumar, Charanjeet Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Bheem Singh, Puneet Kumar and Ashish, also won silver, while in the coxless pair event, Lekh Ram and Babu lal Yadav won bronze.

Besides the medal, the Indian women’s cricket team defeated Bangladesh to reach the final, while the Indian men’s football team played out a 1-1 draw against Myanmar to reach the round of 16 for the first time since 2010. The Indian women’s football team, however, was knocked out after a 1-0 defeat to Thailand.

The Indian men’s hockey team began their campaign with an impressive 16-0 win over Uzbekistan.

Also progressing to the quarter-finals was the Indian men’s table tennis team led by Sharath Kamal, but the women’s team lost to Thailand in the round of 16.

World champion Nikhat Zareen defeated her Vietnam Thi Tam Nguyen 5-0 to move to the 50kg pre-quarterfinals. Preeti Pawar also won her bout in the 54kg opener.

More medals are at stake on Day 2 of the Asian Games. Indian women’s cricket team will play Sri Lanka in the final Monday, while more medals are also up for grabs in rowing and shooting.
