Asian Games 2023: India win gold medal in compound women's team

India women’s compound archery team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Gopichand and Parneet Kaur bagged India’s 19th gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Thursday. India beat Chinese Taipei 230-229 in the final that was ultimately decided in the last three arrows.

With the gold, India’s medal tally at the Asian Games increased to 82 overall with 19 golds, 31 silvers and 32 bronzes.

The top-seeded reigning world champion trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami and Parneet Kaur shot 60 out of 60 in a perfect final end to overcome their third-seeded rivals in the last three arrows and seal the country’s fifth medal in archery and second gold medal in the sport.

India’s previous gold medal in archery had come in compound mixed team event courtesy Jyothi and Ojas Deotale.

With the medal on Thursday, India have assured themselves of at least five medals in archery, record high, at the continental showpiece. Deotale and Abhishek Verma, by setting up an all-India final in men’s compound individual event, have assured of two medals, while Jyothi confirmed at least a silver in women’s compound individual final.

India’s run to the final had come after comfortable wins over Hong Kong and Indonesia. The trio beat Hong Kong 231-220 in the last-eight and Indonesia 233-219 in the semi-finals.
