Sift Kaur Samra broke the world record to win gold in the 50m rifle 3 positions women’s individual event, while compatriot Ashi Chouksey won the bronze in the same event as India won seven medals in shooting on Wednesday. After helping the Indian women’s team win a silver in the 50m rifle 3 positions, Sift Kaur Samra registered a world record score of 469.6 to grab the individual gold and Ashi Chouksey took the bronze with 451.9.
China’s Qiongyue Zhang won the silver with a score of 462.3.
Sift Kaur Samra is also the first Indian to win gold in the 50m rifle 3 positions women’s event at the Asian Games. India’s best before this was a silver which Soma Dutta won in the 1986 Games, 37 years ago.
India at Asain Games 2023: Medals tally
On Wednesday, the first gold medal for India came in the women’s 25m pistol team event through Esha Singh, Manu Bhaker, and Rhythm Sangwan who registered a total score of 1759.
The silver went to China who registered a total score of 1756 while South Korea clinched the bronze with 1742.
Esha Singh later went on to grab the silver in the women’s 25m pistol individual event with a score of 34 as China’s Rui Liu bagged gold with a Games record score (38).

Jiin Yang from South Korea won the bornze (29).
India’s Manu Bhaker came fifth with a score of 21.
Also in the day, the men’s skeet team, comprising Angad Vir Singh Bajwa, Gurjoat Singh Khangura, and Anant Jeet Singh Naruka, won bronze with a score of 355. China (362) won the gold while Qatar bagged silver with 359.

Anant Jeet Singh Naruka also won silver in the men’s shotgun skeet event as Abdullah Al-Rashidi of Kuwait bagged gold with a perfect score of 60. Al-Rashidi equalled the World Record set by India’s Angad Vir Singh in 2018. Anant claimed silver by shooting 56 targets out of 60. This is India’s 11th medal in shooting and has bettered the previous edition medal tally in shooting.
