Canada Wildfires: Canada has been witnessing several active wildfires for the past one year and currently, the country is dealing with close to 100 wildfires which has further worsened the air quality of the surrounding areas. By the same time last year, there were 200 fires in Canada and that had displaced more than 2.3 lakh people across the country, to evacuate. Canada Wildfires: Health And Air Quality Alert Issued

As mentioned earlier, the smoke from the Canada Wildfires has now reached the other nearby states causing a state of panic and anxiety among people due to the alarming health threats. The smoke from Canadian wildfires has prompted health warnings across the Upper Midwest and Montana for the second year in a row. Unhealthy air pollution levels mean everyone in Minnesota should stay indoors and avoid heavy exertion outdoors, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency said in its first statewide air quality alert of the season Sunday. Scheduled to end at noon Monday, the advisory was extended until 11 p.m. for southern Minnesota including the Twin Cities metro area.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said the air quality was unhealthy for sensitive people in multiple counties across the state’s northern two-thirds on Sunday. Set to end at noon Monday, the advisories were kept in place until midnight. Michigan’s Upper Peninsula was also under hazy skies Monday. Some people reported the smell of smoke, said Joe Phillips, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Marquette, Michigan.

  • Minnesota: For the first time this year, an air quality alert has been issued by Minnesota as the AQI in the northern part of Minnesota is ranging between 150-200 and that is symbolic of ‘unhealthy levels’ of air quality.
  • Minneapolis: Authorities of the largest city in Minnesota, Minneapolis have asked the residents, especially those who are dealing with respiratory conditions, to keep their windows closed.
  • Bemidji: The city is considered to be one with one of the poorest air quality in the world and has also been adversely affected by the Canada Wildfires.
  • Wisconsin: Along with Minnesota, Wisconsin and Montana are also affected by the fires as the air qualities in these areas has been deemed ‘unhealthy’ and the rising pollution levels have also caused worries.
  • Iowa: Air quality is quite poor in parts of Iowa and Northern Nebraska, especially for people with heart or asthma disorders.
