Costa Rica President Rodrigo Chaves to visit Panama amid migration crisis
Costa Rican President Rodrigo Chaves will travel to Panama’s Darien Gap in early October to help curb a migrant problem, the nations said on Saturday.
Juan Pino, Panama’s Minister of Public Security, and his Costa Rican colleague, Mario Zamora, visited towns in the perilous area of forest that hundreds of migrants travel each day on their journey to the United States on Saturday.
Between January and September, 390,000 migrants came into Panama from Colombia via the Darien Gap.
According to Panama’s Ministry of Security, the majority of them are Venezuelans, with some from Ecuador, Haiti, and other nations.
