'Dead' for five years, Chandigarh cop found working in UP police

A constable who the Chhattisgarh police said had absconded and died was found to be a police officer in Uttar Pradesh.

The revelation came after almost five years of his service for which he received salary every month. Allegedly the accused employed fake identity documents to get the jobs.

The accused constable Manoj Kumar, also known as Sumit Kumar, eluded the Chhattisgarh armed police and was later given a bogus death certificate.

In 2015, he then sought for a position as a constable with the UP police recruitment board. He was chosen and assigned to Mathura.

However, the fraud was discovered after someone outed Kumar to SP Mathura leading to a scrutiny of his documents of employment.

According to the investigation, Manoj Kumar was initially chosen for the Chhattisgarh armed police and afterwards took a leave of absence.

The Chhattisgarh police classified him as an deserter since he declined to enlist.

“Manoj was chosen in the name of Sumit, therefore he received a copy of Sumit’s death certificate. He later reapplied under the name Manoj Kumar and was chosen for the position, according to JP Singh, SHO Hussainganj.

In accordance with IPC 420 (cheating), IPC 419 (cheating personation), IPC 467 (forgery), and other pertinent provisions, according to Singh, a FIR was filed.
