Dono movie review: Rajveer Deol & Paloma Dhillon starrer is a breezy modern-day romantic entertainer

Cast: Rajveer Deol, Paloma Dhillon, Aditya Nanda, Kanikka Kapur, Rohan Khurana, Manik Papneja & Poojan Chhabra

Director: Avnish S. Barjatya

Language: Hindi

Filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya holds a special place in the hearts of cinegoers, especially family audiences, who made his films Hum Apke Hain Koun, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Maine Pyar Kiya, Vivah and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo box office blockbusters.

Now, his son Avnish has taken forward the legacy with his directorial debut Dono, which marks the first appearances of Sunny Deol’s son Rajveer Deol and Poonam Dhillon’s daughter Paloma Dhillon. So, has the trio lived up to expectations of being part of such great legacies? Let’s find out…

Talking about the plot, it revolves around Dev Saraf (Rajveer), a young CEO of a startup, who is struggling to make his company run. While handling this situation, he receives a call from his mom, who informs him that her childhood friend Alina (Kanikka Kapur) is getting married, which will take place in Thailand.

Dev is disheartened to hear this as he loved Alina since his teenage days but never confessed his feelings to her. While he decides to skip this wedding, just before the big day he accidentally watches a chat show on TV featuring Tisca Chopra as Anjali Malhotra, who gives relationship tips and advice.

Dev resonates with the situation of the show listener, who asks Anjali for help in a relationship and decides to attend the wedding for the final closure so that he can move on in life. During the pre-wedding and wedding festivities, he meets Meghna (Paloma), the groom’s best friend. A girl, who is handling her own emotional problems in a mature way. The groom’s side also has his best friend Gaurav, who is Meghna’s ex-boyfriend.

Both individuals develop a great bond. However, they are facing difficulties in tackling the situation in front of them. Well, where will this journey take Dev and Meghna? For that, you have to watch Dono on the silver screen.

While the simplicity of the narration has been kept intact by Avnish, which is quite popular in his father’s movies, the debutant dealt with the modern-day issues of moving on and accepting the person for what he or she is, in a delightful way. The film is visually appealing and turns out to be a treat on the big screen.

The story will find relevance among the youth but the stretched runtime of over two-and-a-half hours plays a bit spoiler.

Talking about the star cast, Paloma and Rajveer have tried to put their best foot forward as Dev and Meghna. While there’s a long way to go for the debutants, one can’t deny the fact that they look very confident on the screen. Talking about the supporting cast, Aditya Nanda, Kanikka Kapur, Rohan Khurana, Manik Papneja & Poojan Chhabra played their parts supremely well and deserve mention and attention for their portrayals.

On the whole, Dono is a modern-day love story, which works well because of its fresh writing.
