Elon Musk and Mark Cuban Were Up Late Discussing a Controversial Topic

The two billionaires both had the same thing on their minds.

It's no surprise that many of us not quite ready for the weekend to end might stay up late on Sunday night scrolling through Twitter  (TWTR) - Get Free Report, even if only to delay the inevitable for just a few more minutes.

That's exactly what billionaires Elon Musk and Mark Cuban were doing, in fact -- and both had the same topic on their minds.

Musk reshared a 1964 video starring famed science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke talking about artificial intelligence, which Musk deemed "prescient."

"The most intelligent inhabitants of that future world won't be men or monkeys." Clarke says in the clip. "They'll be machines. The remote descendents of today's computers. Now the present day electronic brains are complete morons, but this will not be true in another generation. They will start to think and eventually they will completely outthink their makers. Is this depressing? I don't see why it should be. We superseded the Cro-Magnon and Neanderthal man and we presume we are an improvement. I think we should regard it as a privilege to be stepping stones to higher things."

On another corner of Twitter, Mark Cuban was discussing the same topic with Pershing Square Capital Management hedge fund manager Bill Ackman after Ackman shared a podcast he did with Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI.

When Twitter used @rodgers_thom asked Cuban a question in the comments, the billionaire answered with a chilling take.

"...AI in 100 years will be beyond today's science fiction," Cuban replied. "Once we decode the trillions of variables that make up the human body and mind and add a brain interface … uh oh. The simulation will be real."
