Both England and South Africa come into this match after being at the receiving end of stunning upsets. While England lost to Afghanistan, it was the Netherlands that toppled South Africa and both teams would now want to get their campaign back on track.

Under the captaincy of Jos Buttler, England were knocked out by Afghanistan’s spin, falling short by 69 runs in their pursuit of the 285-run target at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

On the other hand, Temba Bavuma’s South Africa were toppled by an inspired Netherlands, losing by a margin of 38 runs in a curtailed match at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

While England have lost two games so far, South Africa suffered their first loss of the tournament. The pitch at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai should suit batters from both teams and hence, this promises to be a cracking fixture.

South Africa vs England: Mumbai pitch report

There are 13 pitches at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, and the ICC has designated four of the red-soil strips for five World Cup 2023 matches. Traditionally, this venue has been a batting beauty for batters and recognised for favoring fast bowlers, although it primarily leans towards being a batsman-friendly pitch.

There have been 23 ODIs hosted at the stadium and the average first innings score stands at 245. With dew playing a part, the captain winning the toss could well opt to field first and then chase under lights.
