EXCLUSIVE | Anjum Chopra BREAKS Silence on High-Scoring Trends in IPL 2024, Admits ‘Entertaining, But Need to Feel For Bowlers’

New Delhi: The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League is nearing its business end as we are in the final week of the league stage. From record-breaking scores to humongous sixes, the 2024 season has been by far one of the most entertaining seasons in the tournament’s history. While Sunrisers Hyderabad has revolutionized batting at the top, followed by Kolkata Knight Riders making 200 plus a par score in more or less every game. In a candid Facebook live session with India.com, former Indian captain Anjum Chopra discussed the high scoring totals and their impact.

Anjum Chopra spoke about how entertaining it has been this season. She said, “We have been seeing 250 scores consistently, and we have not seen much of it in this format. Initially, it was nice, but we are taking the game into a dimension where the batters have immensely upgraded their skills and gone way far.”

She also expressed concern for the bowlers, saying that despite upgrading their skills, they have been conceding runs, and there must be empathy for them, especially when we give away the man of the match awards or when someone bowls a good spell.

When asked about whether the two bouncers per over rule has helped, She said that it’s a nice cushion or variation, but it feels bad as they cannot go too wide of the off stump, and also that marginal things should be considered in favor of the bowlers rather than giving the benefit of doubt to the batters.

“It feels bad when the ball goes just over the batsman’s head and it is called a wide; bowlers should also be given some scope.” said Anjum Chopra in a candid chat with India.com.
