FACT CHECK! Sania Mirza-Mohammed Shami to Marry?

Mumbai: So is Sania Mirza tying the knot again? There are strong rumours that claim Sania is going to marry India cricketer Mohammed Shami. But, how much of this is true? Sania has just divorced Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik, while Shami’s separation is also ongoing. So, will this union happen? Amid all these wild speculations, Sania’s father Imran has confirmed that there is no truth to this news.

“This is all rubbish. She has not even met him,” Imran told NDTV.

Shami was the toast of the nation at the 50-over World Cup in India. He is currently not part of India’s T20 WC 2024 squad as he is recovering from an injury. He is expected to be back in the Indian colours for the series against Zimbabwe.

Sania and Shoaib Malik were married in a traditional Nikah ceremony in 2010. They welcomed son, Izhaan Mirza Malik, in 2018. Speculations about their separation began in 2022 and were finally confirmed by Sania’s family when Shoaib announced his marriage to Pakistani actress Sana Javed in January 2024.

Currently, Sania has just completed Hajj. Despite having retired, she continues to feature in exhibition matches.

In her prime, Sania was one of India’s best tennis players. She also made it to the top 10 in ATP rankings for a brief while.
