Harbhajan Singh Shows Interest to Become Rahul Dravid’s Successor as Team India Head Coach – REPORT

Mumbai: Amid all kinds of wild speculations over who will become Rahul Dravid’s successor as Team India Head coach, former cricketer Harbhajan Singh has shown interest in the job. Harbhajan admitted that he is yet to apply for it and is not sure he would do it or not, but also said coaching is about man management and not teaching players how to play a certain shot. He also said that he wants to give back to the game, hinting that he could be interested in the role of the head coach.

“I do not know if I would apply. Coaching India is about man management, not about teaching players how to drive and pull. They know it very well. You can give some guidance to them. Cricket has given me so much and If I get a chance to give it back, I would be more than happy,” Harbhajan said as quoted by TOI.

It would be interesting to see if Harbhajan actually goes on to apply or not. He does not have any prior experience of coaching any side of repute.

Earlier, there were reports that Gautam Gambhir could be approached by the Board of Control of Cricket in India to take up the role. Another report stated that CSK coach Stephen Fleming could be approached by MS Dhoni for the job as BCCI realises the former NZ cricketer is reluctant.

The BCCI has set out specific qualifications for potential head coaches, including a minimum of 30 Test Matches or 50 ODI’s played, or experience as a head coach of a full member Test playing nation for a minimum of 2 years, among other requirements.
