IFFI Goa 2023: OTT content to be honoured for the first time in festival's history

Post 2017, the boom of OTT has taken the industry and viewers by a storm. Explosive and entertaining content has been splashing on this platform at a breakneck speed. The titles are endless and so are the platforms, from Netflix to Amazon Prime to Disney Plus Hotstar to Zee5. And to honour the content that streams on OTT, the 54th International Film Festival of India has taken a step.

The news about the 54th International Film Festival of India honoring OTT content was shared by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur at an event in the capital. And with this, it shall be the first time in IFFI Goa’s history that they shall be doing so.

Statement by Thakur

“The movies made in India have covered every corner of the country and are now reaching the distant corners of the world. Renowned Hollywood actor and producer and shining star of world cinema, Michael Douglas, will be conferred with the prestigious Satyajit Ray Excellence in Film Lifetime Award.”

He added that a total of 32 entries across 10 languages from 15 OTT platforms have been received so far this year.

Opening film of IFFI

The opening film to be screened at the festival will be the UK thriller Catching Dust. The event will end with the 2023 American biographical sports drama The Featherweight.
