Brussels: Double Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra missed on the Diamond League title for the 2nd consecutive year as he fell short by just zero.01cm within the season-ending final on Sunday. The Indian who won the Diamond League in 2022 earlier than finishing 2nd last year, around the world again finished on the back of winner Anderson Peters with a throw of 87.86m on Saturday.

The 26-year-old Chopra achieved his best throw of the day in his 0.33 attempt but that became short of eventual winner Peters’ 87.87m effort. Grenada’s Peters, a two-time world champion, produced his best throw of the day in his opening attempt. Julian Weber of Germany became 0.33 with Eighty five.97m.

Chopra, who added a silver to his Olympic medal tally in Paris following a historic gold on the Tokyo Games, thus ended his season on a high. The Indian javelin throw big name, who has a non-public better of 89.94m and season’s better of 89.49m, had a series of 86.82m, Eighty three.49m, 87.86m, 82.04m, Eighty three.30m and 86.46m. The best three led the seven-man field within the same order for the total competition.

Peters will compile a Diamond League trophy and USD 30,000 for emerging as the Diamond League champion this season. Chopra will pocket USD 12,000 for his 2nd-place finish within the grand finale which marked the end of the celebrated Diamond League series after 14 legs, to boot as the end of international athletics season.
