India’s Sons: Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj Sheds Light on False Rape Accusations on Men
A documentary named India's Son which highlights the struggle of those men who were falsely accused of rape is now streaming on Jio Cinemas.
In order to highlight the struggle of those men who were falsely accused of rape, a documentary named ‘India’s Sons‘ is streaming on OTT platform Jio Cinemas. The documentary presented through a first-person account, explores the personal struggles faced by these men and their families. It highlights how evidence is losing its significance in the face of biased testimonies within the system.
Before the documentary was released on Jio Cinemas, it had already premiered in various cities. The screening of the film took place in the presence of Members of Parliament & former Supreme Court and High Court Judges. They all praised the documentary and described it as a much-needed effort toward bringing balance to our laws.
The documentary follows the lives of various men who were falsely accused of rape cases. These men included Prince Garg, falsely accused of rape, suffered five years in prison, despite CCTV evidence placing him miles away from the incident. This ordeal shattered his dream of becoming a Chartered Accountant at just 18 years old. Although acquitted, societal rejection persists, hindering his attempts to rebuild his career. Including testimonies from former IPS Officer Amitabh Thakur, Jagmohan, the late Arvind Bharti, and others, the documentary presents multiple narratives.
India’s Son is helmed and written by Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj. Further, the film was produced by Neeraj Kumar and Shonee Kapoor. The documentary features Karan Oberoi, who has also lent his voice. The cinematography department was under Vikas Singh, and editing was done by Neeraj Kumar.
The main aim of the film was to shed light on the consequences these falsely accused suffered and advocate for a more balanced approach in legal proceedings. The documentary delves into the consequences of legal amendments made in response to the 2012 Delhi gang rape controversy, which inadvertently led to the creation of certain alleged loopholes in India’s rape laws
