Gujarat, who sported a lavender kit in their final home game of the season, rode on Shubman Gill’s maiden IPL ton to post a competitive 188/9 at the Narendra Modi Stadium before four-wicket hauls from Mohammed Shami (4/21) and Mohit Sharma (4/28) restricted Hyderabad to 154/9 in reply.
The Hardik Pandya-led side, who now have 18 points to their name this season, thus maintained their hundred per cent record in the tournament, having made it to the knocks in both editions since making their debut last season.
The defeat resulted in Hyderabad becoming the second team to bow out of the playoffs race, meaning they will be playing for pride, and potentially spoil the part for others, in their remaining matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI).
There was no change in position for GT and SRH, who remained top of the table and second-from-bottom respectively in the 10-team table. Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) occupy the other playoff spots at the moment with 15, 14 and 13 points respectively.
They are closely followed by Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), all of whom have 12 points each though Bangalore and Punjab have an extra game in hand.
Delhi Capitals, who were knocked out of the playoffs race following a seven-wicket defeat against LSG, remain at the bottom of the table; though they are tied with SRH on eight points, they have the poorest Net Run Rate of all teams.
Here’s a look at the updated IPL 2023 points table after CSK vs KKR:
