IPL 2023 Points Table, Orange and Purple Cap list: SRH beat DC to move to 8th after GT seize top-spot

Sunrisers Hyderabad moved past Mumbai Indians to the eighth spot on the Indian Premier League (IPL) points table after their seven-run victory over Delhi Capitals in the second game of the Saturday double-header in Delhi.

Not only did SRH snap their three-match losing run with their victory at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium to collect their third win in eight games this season, they also snapped their four-game losing run against DC that stretched back to Qualifier 2 in the 2020 edition.

With the narrow defeat at home, Delhi continue to languish at the bottom of the points table with six defeats in eight games, with their chances of reaching the playoffs appearing bleak at this stage.

Earlier on Saturday, Gujarat Titans (GT) moved to top spot on the Indian Premier League (IPL) points table with a convincing win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens.

With the 7-wicket win in Kolkata, Gujarat have inched closer to securing their place in the playoffs. While KKR remained seventh and could be eliminated soon.

GT, posting their third straight win, now have 12 points (six wins) after eight matches. Rajasthan Royals (RR), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are right behind with 10 points after eight matches as well. The top four teams qualify for the next stage of the T20 league.

Sitting outside the playoff spots are Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) with eight points to occupy the fifth and sixth spot.

Below them are KKR, SRH and  Mumbai Indians (MI) with six points each although Mumbai have played seven games compared to Hyderabad’s eight and Kolkata’s nine.

Here’s a look at the updated IPL 2023 points table after KKR vs GT:

Du Plessis’ RCB teammate Virat Kohli brought up his fifth half-century of the season against KKR to go second with 333 runs. Gujarat Titans batter Shubman Gill is third with 333 runs as well.

RCB pacer Mohammed Siraj is the current Purple Cap holder with 14 wickets. His figures of 1/33 against KKR saw him match GT spinner Rashid Khan, also on 14 wickets, but is in second place. Punjab Kings’ Arshdeep Singh climbed to the third spot — also with 14 wickets — after dismissing Lucknow Super Giants’ Nicholas Pooran on Friday.
