'Jawan' director Atlee on his next film: 'It could be a dual-hero film with Shah Rukh Khan and Thalapathy Vijay'

Shah Rukh Khan and Atlee recently delivered the massive blockbuster called Jawan, which made more than Rs 600 crore at the box-office. Fresh off its blockbuster success, the filmmaker was speaking about the possibilities of bringing SRK and Vijay together in his next project. Vijay and Atlee also collaborated on the 2019 blockbuster Bigil.

In an interview with Tamil TV presenter and YouTuber Gopinath, the director revealed, “I called Vijay Anna and invited him to my birthday party, and he said he would make it for sure. So, when he came, Shah Rukh sir and Anna discussed between themselves and called me. Shah Rukh sir told me if I ever have plans of directing a dual hero film, they both are ready for it. Vijay Anna also said, ‘Ama pa’. So, I am working on it. It could be my next film.”

He added, “I am working very hard to come up with a script for it. Let’s see.”

Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan

The latest angry young man of Hindi films is Shah Rukh Khan’s Azad from Atlee’s blockbuster Jawan, which released on September 7. At first, going by the promos and promotions, Khan felt like the antagonist of the story, especially when he mouthed the hero-villain dialogue. When you discover what the makers have in store for us, you realise he’s nothing but a victim and not a villain. He asks a minister to solve a puzzle and says the number 10281, and the entire room is left puzzled; this is the number of farmers that have died by suicide in the film and Azad is angry, agitated, and shattered.

Shah Rukh Khan has repeatedly said in his interviews how he always aspired to be an action star and romance happened by chance. With Pathaan and Jawaan, he’s bringing back the era of the Angry Young Man, and also grinning and smiling at the moolah that follows at the box-office. Irony nicely done!
