Kajal Aggarwal Reveals Why Bollywood Has Meatier Roles For Actresses Than South: ‘Still Have Stereotype…’

Kajal Aggarwal discussed why married actresses don’t get to play more prominent roles. She claimed that it was a ‘cultural thing’ for married actresses in the south to be ignored, even though she acknowledged that she obtained the meaty parts she plays in Shankar’s ‘Indian 2′ and Suman Chikkala’s ‘Satyabhama’ before getting married or having children. The star, who is promoting her upcoming film also offered her thoughts on how women are attempting to alter the South Indian film industry’s structure.  Aggarwal recently talked about how Southern filmmakers should go outside the box when it comes to movie genres and positions for married actresses.

Kajal Aggarwal Says Married Actresses in Bollywood Get Meatier Roles

She explained how Bollywood stars like Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt are given more parts than Southern actresses, especially when it comes to romance roles or action movies. Speaking to Galatta Plus, Kajal acknowledged that Bollywood’s attitude toward married women differs from that of the South. She said, “We still have a little bit of stereotype attached, I am hoping we get rid of it soon. It’s this generation of actors who are married and work after having children. I don’t think it’s a cultural thing, I think the audience is accepting of films like that (Tumhari Sulu) if the makers start providing them. It’s the makers who need to start exploring more genres.”

Kajal also acknowledged that her husband Gautam Kitchlu first found it ‘difficult’ to comprehend why she had to travel so frequently to fulfil her obligations. She said that after giving him an explanation and completing her schedule, she became pregnant.

Speaking about Nayanthara’s filmography, she said, “If we are offered, we would take meatier roles, maybe even pivotal roles in films. Things are changing. Like Nayanthara, for example, I love how she conducts her filmography. I love her choices. She is an exception and gets these parts on her terms and conditions. So that’s great. But I am happy to be working at this juncture of my life in the industry today because I’ve got kindness and compassion from my directors.”

On the work front, Kajal will play a police officer in the June 7 release of Satyabhama. She will also be seen alongside Kamal Haasan, Siddharth, and Rakul Preet Singh in the July 12 release of ‘Indian 2.’ Although she was supposed to appear in Tathagata Singha’s Uma as well, there haven’t been any new developments on the project.
