The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal in reference to the excise policy “scam”. Kejriwal had sought bail and challenged his arrest by the CBI. The head court mentioned that prolonged incarceration amounts to unjust deprivation of liberty. The head court directed Kejriwal now not to make any public comment on the merits of the case.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan granted the relaxation to Kejriwal on a bail bond of Rs 10 lakh, and two sureties.

Justice Surya Kant said that his arrest became now not illegal. But, Justice Ujjal Bhuyan differed from Justice Surya Kant and dubbed his arrest as ‘unfair’.

‘Satyamev Jayate’: AAP after SC grants bail to Kejriwal

The AAP on Friday hailed the Supreme Court decision granting bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal within the corruption case linked to the excise policy ‘scam’ as “victory of truth”.

The apex court granted bail to Kejriwal within the excise policy case by the CBI paving way for his free up.

Kejriwal became already granted period in-between bail within the excise policy linked money laundering case of the Enforcement Directorate by the apex court.

In a post on X, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said, “Satyamev Jayate.”

Kejriwal’s free up from the Tihar Penitentiary will be a shot within the arm for the party as it prepares for the elections in Delhi and Haryana.

AAP leaders hail SC’s verdict

Former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, who became recently granted bail within the excise policy cases of the ED and CBI by the apex court, said on X, “This day truth won again within the fight against lies and conspiracies. I the total way through again pay my tribute to the thinking and foresight of Baba Saheb Ambedkar ji, who Seventy 5 years ago had strengthened the common man against any future dictator.”

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha thanked the apex court on the decision.

In a post on X, Delhi Minister Atishi said, “Satyamev Jayate. Truth may all right agonize, now not defeated.”

AAP Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh also welcomed Kejriwal’s free up, saying “he'll continue to dedicate himself to serve the people”.

“Glad that our beloved leader Shri @ArvindKejriwal Ji got bail in Supreme Court. This could maybe from time to time definitely rejuvenate the party workers and give wings to @AamAadmiParty campaign in Haryana. He'll continue to dedicate himself to serve the people,” Singh said in a post on X.

Kejriwal had challenged his arrest

Kejriwal had filed two separate petitions tough the denial of bail and against his arrest by the CBI within the corruption case filed by the central agency.

The AAP chief became arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on June 26.

He had challenged within the apex court the Delhi High Court’s August 5 order which upheld his arrest within the corruption case.

The high court had noted that the loop of evidence against Kejriwal got closed after collection of relevant evidence following his arrest by the CBI and it do not have the opportunity to be said that it became with none justifiable reason or illegal.

The high court had also granted him liberty to approach a trial court together with his plea in search of bail within the case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also lodged a separate money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy ‘scam’.

In step with the CBI and the ED, irregularities were committed while modifying the excise policy and undue favours extended to licence holders.
