Las Vegas Strip adds iconic Peter Luger Steakhouse

Las Vegas has become a showcase for the biggest brands and a massive name is making a rare expansion to open on the Strip.

Everyone comes to the Las Vegas Strip, so it seems like to really plant your flag as a major player you need to set up shop on the famous 4.2-mile stretch of road. Every fast-food chain, even the ones that are only regionally known seems to have at least one Strip location.

That's also true for big brands like M&M's, Hershey's, and Coca-Cola. All three of those have flagship locations on the Strip. They're joined by an array of retail ranging from the brands you see at your local mall to higher-end retailers that populate malls like Caesar's Forum Shops or the shopping plazas at MGM Resorts International's (MGM) - Get Free Report MGM Grand. 

The Strip, of course, also has become home to a wide array of big-name performers. You can see current artists like Lady Gaga, Adele, Garth Brooks, and Katy Perry, nostalgia acts including Donny Osmond and Wayne Newton along with the biggest names in electronic dance music (EDM) playing both day and nightclubs.

But, the true highlight of the Strip may be its restaurants. All the big-name celebrity chefs -- everyone from Bobby Flay and Guy Fieri to Wolfgang Puck, Giada DeLaurentis, and Emeril Lagasse have found homes (in most cases multiple homes) on the Strip. 

That has also been true for big-name restaurant brands like STK, Mon Ami Gabi, Le Cirque, Bardot Brasserie, and so many more. Now, one of New York's most legendary eateries is readying for its grand opening inside Caesars Entertainment's (CZR) - Get Free Report flagship Caesar's Palace.

Peter Luger comes to the Las Vegas Strip

Brooklyn's Peter Luger Steakhouse opened in 1887 and it has never operated outside of New York. In fact, its last expansion until its very recent opening in Tokyo was adding a Long Island location in 1960.

It's an eatery that has become famous for its limited menu and not taking credit cards. It also has very rigorous standard which it still holds to.

"The family owners still follow in matriarch Marsha Forman's tradition of visiting the New York meat markets, where they hand-select only the very best from an already narrow selection of USDA Prime beef. If chosen, subprimals are stamped with the family's approval and then brought to the on-site dry-aging facilities, where they are kept under carefully regulated temperature and humidity conditions until they meet the rigorous, time-tested Peter Luger standards," Caesars shared in a press release.

The Caesars Palace location will open in a 9,000-square-foot spot near Mr. Chow. Its design will be evocative of a German beer hall and have some of the exposed brick and industrial look of the original location.   

Caesars lost two New York icons

In 2021, partly due to the covid pandemic, the legendary New York Italian restaurant Rao's closed its Caesars Palace location. The chain had a 15-year run at the location and its owners have not ruled out coming back to Las Vegas.

“When we opened Rao’s Caesars Palace in December of 2006, we didn’t fully understand the impact it would have on all of our lives. Nearly 15 years later, as we prepare to close these doors for the final time, we are filled with a variety of emotions and will always look back and cherish the memories made within these walls. While our future in Las Vegas is not yet decided, we are very excited about the possibilities of what lies ahead,” Rao’s co-owners Frank Pellegrino Jr. and Ron Straci said in a press statement.

In addition to losing Rao's, another New York institution Old Homestead Steakhouse, has closed its Caesars Palace location. The popular eatery closed in May and will be replaced by a new concept Brasserie B by Bobby Flay which is expected to open before the end of the year.
