Authorities booked three social media influencers for violence in Haryana

Authorities arrested three social media influencers on August 3 following the July 31 deadly communal violence in Haryana.

On August 2, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar provided an update on the situation, stating that FIRs had been filed against miscreants and that anyone found responsible will face harsh punishment.

Authorities are allegedly monitoring social media activity in the state from July 21 to July 31.

Manipur HC orders status quo on proposed burial site for Kuki-Zomi people killed in violence

On Thursday, the Manipur High Court ordered that the status quo be preserved at the intended burial site in Haolai Khopi village, Churachandpur district, where the Kuki-Zo group had scheduled a funeral rite for 35 individuals murdered in the ethnic war.

Acting Chief Justice MV Muralidharan issued the order following a hearing at 6 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF), a Kuki-Zo community association, decided to postpone the burial for five days in response to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's plea. According to them, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has also demanded the same.

Rupee falls 5 paise to 82.72 against US dollar

In early trade on Thursday, the rupee fell 5 paise to 82.72 versus the US dollar, as a bearish trend in local stocks and robust crude oil prices impacted investor mood.

According to FX dealers, sustained foreign money withdrawals and the strength of the US dollar in the international market have dampened attitudes.

The domestic unit started at 82.71 on the interbank foreign exchange, then fell to 82.72, a 5 paise drop from its previous closing.

The rupee closed at 82.67 versus the dollar on Wednesday, down 45 paise from its previous level.

Molotov cocktails hurled at two mosques in Haryana's Nuh

Assailants on motorcycles hurled Molotov cocktails at two mosques in Tauru, Haryana's Nuh district, police reported on Thursday.

According to them, no one was hurt in the occurrences that occurred about 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday night.

One mosque is near Vijay Chowk, while the other is near a police station. Both mosques were damaged in some way.

Police added that as soon as they learned about the occurrences, fire departments responded to the two mosques and extinguished the fires.

Unidentified intruders also set fire to a bangle shop in Palwal district's Minar Gate market, they claimed.

The Bill to replace the ordinance for control of services in Delhi is expected to cause uproar in Parliament on Thursday, as the legislation could not be taken up for consideration and passage on the tenth day of the ongoing Monsoon session due to disruptions by Opposition benches over the Manipur issue.

According to the House's agenda for today, Union Minister Amit Shah will introduce the bill for debate.

On Tuesday, the bill was tabled in Lok Sabha, with opposition parties criticising the government's decision. When the bill is put up for discussion, opposition MPs such as Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Saugata Roy, NK Premachandran, Sushil Kumar Rinku, and Asaduddin Owaisi are expected to present a resolution against the ordinance published by the Centre in May this year.

US calls for calm, urges parties to refrain from violent actions: State Dept on clashes in Gurugram

In reaction to the current skirmishes in Gurugram and nearby regions, the US Department of State issued a statement calling for calm and urging all sides to avoid violence.

Addressing the State Department briefing on Wednesday (local time), the official spokesperson Matthew Miller said, "I would say of – with respect to the clashes that obviously we would, as always, urge calm and urge parties to refrain from violent actions."

"With respect to whether we’ve heard from any Americans, I’m not aware of that. I’m happy to follow up with the – with the embassy," he said when asked about any American citizen impacted by the clashes in Gurugram.

Clashes between two factions erupted in Nuh on Monday afternoon when a religious procession going through the district was attacked, killing two house guards and injuring dozens of people, including roughly 20 police officers.
