Mark Cuban Wants the NBA to Make This Major Change

The billionaire chimed in on a major theme of the first weekend of the NBA Playoffs.

Multiple NBA superstars suffered injuries during Sunday’s action after taking an awkward fall upon colliding with a defender attempting to take a charge. Cuban, who famously owns the Dallas Mavericks, offered a potential solution in response to a post by Sports Illustrated.

“Move the circle further away from the basket. Taking it an extra foot away from the hoop would reduce to take charges on drives dramatically. I’ve asked. Obviously nothing has changed,” wrote Cuban on Twitter.

Cuban also said on Twitter that he’s proposed this to the league in the past but said “nothing has changed.”

The ‘circle’ Cuban is referring to indicates the restricted area where defenders may not take a charge. The area is about a four-feet radius from the basket in the NBA, but is slightly further away in other leagues in the international organization FIBA.

In the first game of the NBA’s four game Sunday slate, Memphis Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant suffered an apparent wrist injury after committing a charge on the Los Angeles Lakers’ Anthony Davis. Morant would run straight out of the game after the play and did not return for the game’s final six minutes as the Grizzlies fell to the Lakers.

About an hour later, two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo fell on his back after colliding with the Miami Heat’s Kevin Love, who was attempting to take a charge from just inches outside of the restricted area. Antetokounmpo left the game late in the first quarter and did not return to the game as his top-seeded Milwaukee Bucks dropped their first game to the Heat.
