This popular actress started her journey as a baby actor. Her first film became 1977’s ‘Karm’ featuring Rajesh Khanna and Shabana Azmi. She did a pair of movies as a baby equivalent to ‘Bade Ghar Ki Beti’ starring Rishi Kapoor, Sunny Deol’s ‘Dacait’ and Shekhar Kapur’s drama ‘Masoom’. As soon as she grew, in 1989, she made her debut in Malayalam with Kamal Haasan’s ‘Chanakyan’. In Bollywood, her first film as lead actress became ‘Narsimha’. She became seen with Sunny Deol and Dimple Kapadia. It became Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chamatkar’, where she became recognised. Urmila Matondkar’s personal life

Urmila got married to Kashmir-based businessman and model Mohsin Akhtar Mir in March 2016. Mohsin became 9 years younger than her. There were various trolling over their inter-spiritual wedding. To this, the actress said even after marriage, she has no longer changed her religion. She is a Hindu even after marriage and her husband and her in-laws never pressured her to convert.

Urmila Matondkar’s political journey

Urmila Matondkar joined the Indian National Congress (INC) on 27 March 2019. She contested from Mumbai North constituency within the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, but lost. On 10 September 2019, she resigned from the party, citing petty internal politics. In 2020 december, the actress joined Shiv Sena in presence of party president Uddhav Thackeray. Shiv Sena hoped to feature a nationally recognised face and voice, well accustomed to Marathi, Hindi moreover to English, to represent the party.
