SL vs NZ T20 World Cup Live Scores and Updates:

Glenn Phillips -
My conversation (with Mitchell) was to carry on as long as possible, play the right possible shots, was a little difficult against the slower balls, but we managed to get to a competitive total. I couldn't put away the slower ones, but managed to execute my skills against the pacers, especially when pace was on. The bowlers did well later on. I did cramp up a bit, lack of salts possibly there, the boys asked me not to take any further risks on limping away). They swung the new ball (Boult and Southee), and the slower ones were holding onto the surface, getting early wickets was crucial and we managed to do that early. It was an exceptional performance by our bowlers and fielders.

SL vs NZ T20 World Cup Live Scores and Updates:

Sri Lanka started the match in an excellent manner and at one moment it seemed like New Zealand will struggle to compete in this match. However, SL allowed them to come back into the match with some dropped catches and mediocre bowling. Glenn Phillips used those gifts to his best and scored a magnificent century to put on a competitive total on the board at halfway mark.
The Sri Lankan run chase was expected to be a competitive one, but Tim Southee and Trent Boult ensured that the target was an overwhelming one for the Lankans bagging four wickets in the powerplay and the fifth wicket, on the immediate ball after the end of powerplay. Sri Lanka could never get back in the game with the kind of middle order they have after losing five wickets for 24 runs.

New Zealand have a envious NRR of 3.85 and with two wins and a washout, they sit comfortably at the top with 5 points from three matches. They already have their one foot in the door for the semi-finals.

The ball was as high at the level of the eyes of Shanaka when he played the shot. Dasun Shanaka c Mitchell b Boult 35 (32)

SL vs NZ T20 World Cup Live Scores and Updates:

New Zealand have clearly been the better side with the ball and in the field, and that is proving to be the difference between the two sides. Glenn Phillips did play a match-winning knock, but he was dropped on 12 and that was an easy catch to be taken. Sri Lanka dropped a few too many and also gave away a free hits for NZ to ease out the pressure.

16:30 (IST)

SL vs NZ T20 World Cup Live Scores and Updates:

Glenn Phillips has gone of the field here with a bout of cramps on both his legs.

SL vs NZ T20 World Cup Live Scores and Updates:

9.6 Bhanuka Rajapaksa departs. That was a good-looking shot and seemed like going all the way for a moment, with Rajapaksa's bat flow. But that was mistimed and the ball only manages to reach the mid-off fielder where Kane Williamson takes a comfortable catch. Sri Lanka have lost sixth wicket. Bhanuka Rajapaksa c Kane Williamson b Lockie Ferguson 34(22)

7.5 Bhanuka Rajapaksa seems to playing on a different surface and in different conditions. As cool and calm as a batter can be after losing five wickets for 30 runs. Sodhi once again drops it short and Rajapaksa gets on his back foot to cut the ball through backward point. The ball races away to the boundary.

16:03 (IST)

7.1 Ish Sodhi is welcomed with a six! A googly to start his spell, but too short. Rajapaksa drags back and plummels it over the deep mid-wicket for a huge six.

Sri Lanka openers in the middle. Tim Southee to open the attack for New Zealand.

15:23 (IST)

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka T20 World Cup Live Scores and Updates:

A brilliant effort from Glenn Phillips after early carnage from the Sri Lankan bowlers. 104 off 64 deliveries is no mean feat and New Zealand have a very much defendable total on the scoreboard. The onus will now be on the Sri Lankan batters to chase the total. The Sri Lankans let go the advantage after early wickets as Phillips built a decent partnership with Daryl Mitchell. And they inched ahead slowly and steadily to recover from the massacre. Sri Lanka hit back with a few wickets in the middle overs, but dropping Phillips on 12 cost them a bit too many runs. Back for chase in a bit.

15:19 (IST)

19.6 Tim Southee ends the innings with a fine boundary! A low full toss and that was swung away to the deep mid-wicket boundary. New Zealand have a decent score on the board, more than decent in fact.

New Zealand: 167/7 after 20 overs

15:14 (IST)

19.5 Ish Sodhi is gone, he is run-out. Sodhi had pulled it well to the deep mid-wicket and one run was easily available, but they wanted two! The fielder from the deep threw the ball well and Sodhi was caught well short of the crease. A dive might have helped him. Ish Sodhi run out (Ashen Bandara) 1(1)

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka T20 World Cup Live Scores and Updates:

Back-to-back no balls by Rajitha and one of them has conceded a boundary as well. But the free-hit has gone without any runs.

14:59 (IST)

17.1 NZ lose another wicket as Jimmy Nisham fails to entertain the crowd. Wide and outside off, Nisham slaps it on the off side, but the ball gets straight into hands of extra cover - skipper Dasun Shanaka completes an easy catch. Nessham is disappointed with himself.

14:47 (IST)

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka T20 World Cup Live Scores and Updates:

14.3 Hasaranga finally has a breakthrough! Daryl Mitchell has been bowled with a googly. That was a lot fuller, and Mitchell was prompted to make some room. But he is beaten and the ball dislodges the stumps. Mitchell didn't fire, but gave a decent support to Phillips after the team was under pressure. Surprisingly, no boundaries for the all-rounder.
Daryl Mitchell b Wanindu Hasaranga 22(24)

14:44 (IST)

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka T20 World Cup Live Scores and Updates:

14:42 (IST)

13.5 Another boundary! That's an expensive over. Karunaratane bowls wide outside off stump, and Phillips opens the face of bat to slice it square. The third man in the deep is a lot square, but still cant get to the ball.

New Zealand: 94/3 after 14 overs

14:39 (IST)

13.3 Another beautiful shot, this time on the leg side. Karunaratne bowls a slower delivery, Phillips gets on his knees and sweeps it well through the mid-wicket region. The ball bisects two fielders in the deep and goes over the boundary line. And that is fifty as well, for Phillips! Under some pressure and he has played an excellent knock for the Kiwis.

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka T20 World Cup Live Scores and Updates:

Lahiru Kumara bowls a no ball, but is safe as the free-hit concedes only two runs. However, the over has already been expensive with 11 runs in five balls.

14:08 (IST)

7.1 Not the best start for Lahiru Kumara. Bowls down the leg side and Phillips gets on top of it and tries to pull it hard. He gets a glove on it and the ball races away to the fence behind the wicket-keeper.

14:06 (IST)

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka T20 World Cup Live Scores and Updates:

6.5 Patthum Nisanka has dropped a straight-forward catch at long off. Wanindu Hasaranga, the bower, is livid. That was the perfect chance to redeem himself from the Australia bashing, but Nissanka has failed to support him. A tossed-up delivery on the off stump, and Phillips plays inside out, but finds the fielder. Lucky for him to get a lifeline.

New Zealand: 30/3 after 7 overs

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka T20 World Cup Live Scores and Updates:

5.2 A good shot by Glenn Philips. He is looking comfortable at the moment. That was short and wide of off stump and Phillips directs it well, square on the off side - past point and to the boundary cushions

Amidst an already heated group 1, New Zealand will face Sri Lanka in a very important fixture to add some crucial points to their tally and strengthen their hold on the semi-finals qualification.

New Zealand and Sri Lanka will face each other at the SCG in Sydney.

New Zealand were not given any significant attention at the start of the tournament, but their emphatic win over Australia ensured their proper announcement at the World Cup.

The Kiwis are looking for a team that has covered all bases with some power hitters across the batting order and a versatile bowling attack. The squad will only be boosted with the comeback of Daryl Mitchell who is expected to make his way into the playing XI against Sri Lanka.

New Zealand will continue to bank on Devon Conway and Finn Allen to open the innings, keeping someone as mighty as Martin Guptill out of the playing XI.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will look to overcome their defeat against Australia and compete better with New Zealand. They were going strong against Australia until Marcus Stoinis came in and spoiled the momentum that was making the match look like going down to the wire.

The Lankans were disciplined with the ball but will want their batters to put in more effort and score those additional 15 runs. Wanindu Hasaranga will also look to make things normal after being taken for a ride against Australia.

While New Zealand have recovered their injured player, Sri Lanka have been plagued with injuries and we are definitely expecting a couple of changes in the playing XI.

The Kiwis will want to ensure the two points here after one point slipped as the match against Afghanistan was washed out.

Thankfully, no showers are expected in Sydney, and after multiple washouts on Friday, Saturday is expected to set up the World Cup mood perfectly.

Head to Head: New Zealand 10 – Sri Lanka 8 (one washout)

Squads:

New Zealand: Finn Allen, Devon Conway(wk), Kane Williamson(c), Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Ish Sodhi, Lockie Ferguson, Trent Boult, Michael Bracewell, Daryl Mitchell, Adam Milne, Martin Guptill

Sri Lanka: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis(wk), Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dasun Shanaka(c), Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Lahiru Kumara, Ashen Bandara, Pramod Madushan, Kasun Rajitha, Jeffrey Vandersay
