No Retirement Plans For MS Dhoni Now, Former CSK Captain To Wait Before Taking Final Call: Report

New Delhi: MS Dhoni may not announce his retirement soon and is likely to be seen next year to keep his promise to his fans that his last will be in front of his home supporters at Chepauk. Devastated at not been able to finish the game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Dhoni immediately left for Ranchi and was spotted at his hometown with wife Sakshi and daughter Ziva on Sunday morning. The loss to RCB meant CSK were eliminated from the playoffs race. Had CSK won the game and qualified for the final at Chepauk on May 26, there could have been a possibility that the former skipper may have announced his retirement.

According to CSK officials, there has no communication from Dhoni about his future. “Dhoni has not told anybody in CSK that he is quitting. He has told the management that he will wait for a couple of months before taking a final call,” a CSK source was quoted as saying to TOI.

Dhoni has been playing with an injured knee for the past two seasons. While he was able to led the side to title in 2023, Dhoni gave up his captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad just before the start of the season. In fact, Dhoni was seen running with without hesitation in the last few matches which gives an indication that his knee is gradually healing.

“He did not feel any discomfort in his running between the wickets and that is a plus,” the source added. With BCCI expected to announce the retention policy in the next few months (tentatively November), Dhoni may not have too much time to decide on his future. It is also learnt that Dhoni have met N Srinivasan just once in the current season and is believed to have one-on-one chat with his boss before taking the final call.
