No specific information on Nijjar shared by Canada, Trudeau's allegations politically driven: MEA

India has slammed Canada for not sharing information specific information on the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar and accused Justin Trudeau-led government of not acting upon evidence given by India on criminal activities carried out on Canadian soil.

“No specific information has been shared by Canada on the Nijjar killing case. We are willing to look at any specific information that is provided to us, but so far we have received no specific information from Canada. From our side, specific evidence about criminal activities by individuals based on Canadian soil has been shared with Canada but not acted upon,” MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said during a media briefing

Bagchi further said “safe haven” is being provided in Canada to terrorists, extremists and organised crimes.

“Safe haven is being provided in Canada, we want the Canadian government not to do so and take action against those who have terrorism charges or send them here to face justice. We have sought either extradition requests or assistance related to that, at least more than 20-25 individuals. We have requested over the years, but the response has not been helpful at all,” the MEA spokesperson said.

‘Allegations by Canada politically driven’

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau earlier this week alleged Indian links in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Nijjar, chief of the banned Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) and a “designated terrorist” was killed in a targeted shooting at British Columbia in Canada’s Surrey in June.

India has rejected the allegations made by Trudeau, terming them “absurd” and “motivated”.

At the media briefing, Bagchi said he thinks “there is a degree of prejudice”.

“They have made allegations and taken action on them. To us, it seems that these allegations by government of Canada are primarily politically driven,” the MEA spokesperson said.

“We have seen and rejected the statement of the Canadian Prime Minister in their Parliament, as also the statement by their Foreign Minister. Allegations of Government of India’s involvement in any act of violence in Canada are absurd and motivated,” MEA had said in a statement.

“Similar allegations were made by the Canadian Prime Minister to our Prime Minister and were completely rejected. We are a democratic polity with a strong commitment to the rule of law,” it added.
