Omar Lulu Granted Anticipatory Bail By Kerala High Court In Alleged Sexual Assault Case

Kochi: Acclaimed Malayalam director Omar Abdul Vahab profoundly known as Omar Lulu was recently granted interim anticipatory bail for allegedly raping a young woman. On Thursday Lulu was granted bail by the Kerala High Court. Omar expressed his belief that the intimate encounter he had with the actor who lodged the complaint was agreed upon by both parties. In a news report published by Onmanorma, Omar Lulu slammed the allegations made against him. He further stated that the allegations made against him were false and that they were finding ways to extort money from him. The committee headed by Justice A Badharudeen has granted anticipatory bail to the director, scheduling an in-depth reconsideration of his case until June 6.

What Exactly Happened?

The actress lodged an accusation against Omar Lulu, alleging he sexually assaulted her multiple times with the deceptive promise of a film role. The local Nedumbassery police recorded her grievance and have invoked Section 376, which pertains to rape, of the Indian Penal Code against the director. However, the accused director has refuted the claims, labeling it as an extortion attempt and suggesting that the root of these allegations is a fallout between what was once a friendship.

According to multiple media agencies, the Malayalam director alleged that the actress, who was once a dear friend of his, now seems to hold a grudge against him. They used to share a close comradeship, even spending vacations together. However, a fallout a few months ago turned their friendship sour leading to an absolute silence between them for the past half-year.

He added, “I was friends with this girl for a long time. She was a person who accompanied me on many journeys. However, a rift happened in the friendship and we have not been in contact for the past six months (sic).”

He further alleged, “Now, just when I commenced my new movie, she has come forward with such a complaint. The reason behind it could be anger at not being given a chance in the film. Or maybe, it is part of a blackmail attempt to extort money (sic).”

Lulu was contending with accusations in accordance with Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code, a section that stipulates the repercussions for rape.
