Pakistan SHOCKER: Female Gynaecologist Performs ‘Virginity Test’ Of 10-Yr-Old Rape Victim; Sacked

Pakistan News: A female gynaecologist was sacked by the Punjab government in Pakistan after it came to light that she had conducted a ‘virginity test’ on a minor rape victim despite the practice being banned in the country.

As per a PTI report, the provincial government in Pakistan’s Punjab dismissed Dr Aliza Gill from service for conducting the two-finger virginity test on a 10-year-old rape victim following the Lahore High Court (LHC) taking expressing its displeasure over the incident.

Taking serious note of the virginity test being performed on a minor rape victim, the LHC said the test is banned and cannot be performed under any circumstances.

“Under no circumstances, the test can be performed or documented in the medicolegal report,” LHC Justice Farooq Haider said during the hearing on Tuesday. Justice Haider also expressed concern over the practice of the test at the hospitals, despite a ban.

The judge noted how doctors are issuing medical certificates against the law and practice of conducting virginity tests is going on unabated in hospital despite the practice being outlawed by the top court over four years ago.

“This is a very serious matter and should not go unnoticed,” he said.

In its response, the Punjab government told the court it had terminated the services of Dr Aliza Gill who conducted the virginity test on the minor rape victim.

The government’s counsel Raja Maqsood said informed the court that in light of the LHC judgement directions have been issued to doctors across the province regarding the medicolegal examination of female victims of sexual assaults that the virginity test must not be performed or documented in the medicolegal report.

Maqsood told the LHC that Surgeon Medical Officer of Punjab has also recommended forming a new medical board for the victim’s examination.

The judge adjourned the hearing till Thursday.

In 2020, the LHC had banned the two-finger virginity test in rape examinations, terming it as “humiliating having no forensic value”.
