The Supreme Court ordered that all petitions for the production of accused, detention, judicial custody, extension of custody, and other processes in Manipur courts be done electronically, taking into account both distance and security concerns. It rules that judicial custody be allowed in Manipur.
The Supreme Court ordered that witness statements under 164 CrPC be recorded in the presence of a local Magistrate in Manipur. The Supreme Court orders the Acting Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court to appoint one or more magistrates to record witness statements.
The Supreme Court further states that the test identification process would be conducted by video conference in the presence of a Manipur-based magistrate. According to the court, applications for search and arrest warrants will be granted electronically by the investigating officer.
