Ratna Pathak on age gap in Bollywood, 'When they are not ashamed...'

From Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani in Laxmii, to Salman Khan and Disha Patani in Radhe and the superstar and Saiee Manjrekar in Dabangg 3, Bollywood has a prominent trend of older actors romancing younger actresses. It is no hidden fact that ageism very much exists in B-town. Veteran actress Ratna Pathak Shah who is known to speak her mind recently shared her opinion on the matter during a recent conversation with India Today. The Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai actress termed this culture awful.

Ratna Pathak Shah on the age gap in Bollywood

Ratna Pathak Shah is busy promoting her recent release Dhak Dhak at the moment and while talking on the subject of age gap in Bollywood, she said, “When they don’t feel ashamed, then what should I say? They are not ashamed to romance actresses who are younger than their daughters, so there is nothing for me to say. I mean it’s an embarrassment.”

Ratna Pathak Shah further criticised the hypocrisy revealing that while the viewers do not mind seeing an older actor romancing a younger actress, they have an issue if an older actress is paired with a younger actor.

The veteran actress was also questioned about what can bring about a change in the industry. Reacting to this, Ratna Pathak Shah revealed that she is sure that women are not going under the burqa or ‘ghunghat’ anymore. She added that women are economically more viable today, “We will drive certain stories, women will make their way, it will take time but we will surely make our way.”
