Ravichandran Ashwin involved in heated conversation with umpire Marais Erasmus in 2nd Test against England

Team India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was involved in a heated conversation with the on-field umpire Marais Erasmus at the end of the opening day of the second Test against England. The incident occurred while young India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal was being congratulated by the visiting side in Visakhapatnam. Ashwin was seen marching towards the square leg umpire and got involved in some serious dialogues.

When the cameras shifted away from the amicable exchanges between Jaiswal and the English cricketers, Ashwin was seen involved in an animated discussion with umpire Erasmus. It seemed as if India’s ace spinner was highlighting something that bothered him as the day drew to a close.

A report published by PTI claimed that the Zimbabwean umpire attempted to remind Ashwin about the time as the day’s proceedings were getting to a close.

He took the strike to face Rehan Ahmed for the final over and he bashed one ball over the mid-on region to collect a boundary. But as soon as the final delivery was bowled, Ashwin marched towards the umpire with few points to put across.

At the end of the day, India, trailing 1-0 in the five-match series, reached 336 losing six wickets with Jaiswal and Ashwin remaining unbeaten. For England, Shoaib Bashir and fellow spinner Rehan Ahmed picked up two wickets each. James Anderson too picked up one wicket.

Jaiswal was the star of the day with the bat for India as he trudged back with an unbeaten 179. The southpaw spoke about the conditions on offer and how he paced his innings right through the day.

“Initially, the wicket was damp and there was spin and bounce, with a bit of seam. However, I wanted to convert the loose balls, and play till the end. I would love to double this up, and play till the end for the team,” Jaiswal said at the end of the day.

On the second day, Ashwin looked quite set and unfurled a few pleasing boundaries but he was dismissed by English pacer James Anderson with a perfect away swinger. After Ashwin’s dismissal, Jaiswal motored ahead to bring up a fabulous double century.

India were eventually bowled out on 396.
