New York: Once India captain Rohit Sharma left the field on Wednesday after gesturing towards his elbow during the T20 World Cup 2024 game against Ireland, there was panic all around the Indian camp. But then, he came out and gave a thumbs up indicating that he is absolutely fine and there is nothing major that has happened. He was hit on the arm in the first ball of the 10th over, and is probably what caused the discomfort. He left the field in the 10th over with the side cruising to a comfortable win. Rohit left with the side needing 21 more runs to win the game.

“Yeah, just a little sore (the arm),” Rohit said at the post-match presentation.

He retired hurt on 52* off 37 balls. His innings was laced with four boundaries and three sixes. Eventually, India won the match by eight wickets and 24 balls to spare. And he got these runs in tricky conditions, not exactly favouring the batters.

“Quite unsure of what to expect from the pitch. Not aware on what it is to play like on a pitch that’s five months old. I don’t think the wicket settled down even when we batted second. There was enough for the bowlers. That’s pretty much what you gotta do. Try to hit those lengths consistently,” Rohit revealed the gameplan.

So, will Rohit miss the Pakistan game on June 9? No, he will lead the side in the Nassau County International cricket stadium in New York. He will also be key to India’s fortune in that high-profile game. The runs that he got tonight will give him a lot of confidence. But he would also realise he was dropped early. Eyes would be on Rohit during the game against the arch-rivals.
