Salim Khan Reflects on Interfaith Marriage with Helen and Raising Salman and Arbaaz in Boarding Schools

Veteran Indian actor, screenwriter, and film producer Salim Khan recently opened up about his relationship with Helen and the reasons he sent his sons, Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan, to boarding school. During this interesting and heartfelt conversation, Salim also reflected on the early days of his relationship with Helen, which began while he was still married to his first wife, Salma Khan.

About Salim Khans’s out of the box family life:

Salim Khan was first married to Sushila Charak, who later adopted the name Salma. She is the mother of his sons Salman, Arbaaz, and Sohail. When talking about his marriage to Salma, Salim shared, “My father-in-law told me that I was a nice guy, but religion was the problem. I then told him, ‘Doctor sahib, meri aur apki beti ke 1760 problems ho sakte hain, but religion will never be one of them.’ He did not accept our marriage for 10 years. He came for the first time after Sohail was born. He just saw us and went away.”

Why did he send his kids away?

Arbaaz asked his father Salim about why the sudden decision of going to a hostel along with Salman Khan once Helen entered their lives. Replying to it, the screenwriter said, “That was the only way so that there is not any problem in your education. Naturally, you guys would have been disturbed which would affect studies. Par mai 2 saal mein tumko waapis bhi le aaya. (I had called you both after 2 years).”

Salim also spoke candidly about his next relationship with veteran actress Helen. He emphasised the importance of his intentions being understood by everyone involved, including his children and other household members. He wanted everyone to be unanimously content and understanding of his choices and decisions since coexisting was key. “At that time, it was crucial that my intention was understood by everyone, my kids, the household members. Everyone knew that I didn’t want to leave the family or Helen. Your mother, Salma, was the first to accept Helen, and gradually everyone started living harmoniously,” he revealed.

This conversation shed light on Salim Khan’s efforts to break stereotypes and foster a harmonious family environment, despite the complexities of his relationships under the same roof.
