Senior Hezbollah Commander Killed in Israeli Strike In Lebanon

Beirut: An Iran-backed militant group said that Israeli strike on southern Lebanon killed a senior Hezbollah commander on Tuesday. The military group named the commander as Sami Abdallah, alias Abu Taleb, born in 1969, and reported his death “with great pride and great honour”.

A Lebanese military source told news agency AFP that the commander was “the most important in Hezbollah to be killed up to now since the start of the war” between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza, which has fuelled violence on the Lebanese border.

Notably, the Israeli strike hit the town of Jouaiyya, 15 kilometres (nine miles) from the Israeli border, and also killed three other people.

In the meantime, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reported that Israel Air Force fighter jets attacked a military compound of Hezbollah’s Unit 4400 – the logistical reinforcement unit of the terrorist organisation – which serves in transporting weapons to Lebanon and within Lebanon.

In the complex, two centers located in the area of Baalbek in Lebanon’s Beqaa Valley, northeast of Beirut were attacked. This is much deeper into Lebanese territory than the areas in southern Lebanon that have been the focus of the fighting in recent months.

In addition, other terrorist targets were attacked in the Aitaroun area in southern Lebanon, including a military site and two military buildings belonging to the terrorist organisation Hezbollah.

The attacks were carried out in response to the downing of an IDF UAV/drone that was operating in the skies over Lebanon Monday night.
