Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan a socio-political film: Sharp pointing out of real-life incidents

Despite the huge commonality of Atlee’s films which are massy, Jawan stood out because of the brilliant dialogues and its references to real-life incidents. A socio-political film that reached out to the audiences with an entertaining spin.

Shah Rukh Khan is a major factor for the success, but the bold socio-political angle was a major cause which made the film relatable to the audiences. It takes real guts to do a movie like Jawan. I am not denying that the film didn’t have a commercial packaging which is the need of the hour for a movie to succeed in theatres. But to make a movie like Jawan requires real guts.

Farmers’ suicide

Addressing the farmers’ issue in India, Jawan has highlighted the rise of farmers’ suicide pointing out as to why the country’s farming laws have not been amended in the correct way. Jawan addresses the farmers’ issues and their sufferings from draught to flood to debt and finally suicide.

Faulty healthcare sector

The healthcare scam shown in Jawan has a stark similarity to the on the 2017 Gorakhpur Hospital Tragedy and the oxygen cylinder crisis during the second wave of COVID-19. Looks like Jawan was inspired by the real-life tragic incident at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur, where 60 children lost their lives due to a shortage of oxygen. Here SRK plays one of his multiple roles as Azad who leads a team of women who are on a mission to take revenge against the bureaucrats. It highlights the negligence in the government hospitals where no importance is given to the infrastructure.

Defense scam

The emphasises on the defense scam where our poor soldiers are made to fight and sacrifice their lives because of faulty armaments. Jawan shows how arm dealers continue to mint money at the cost of the life of our soldiers. Nobody can touch businessman Kalee played by Vijay Sethupathi because it is they who control everything.

Jawan has become the fastest Hindi movie to cross the 500 crore mark at the global box-office.
