Surat: Tension prevailed in Surat city after some youths threw stones at a Ganesh pandal in the Sayedpura area in the early hours of Monday. The stone-pelting incident escalated, and a clash broke out in the area. Heavy security became deployed to bring the location less than keep an eye on. Police also resorted to a lathi charge and used tear gas to cope the angry crowd. Following the stone-pelting incident, hundreds of people gathered outside the police station, demanding action against the culprits. The Home Minister also assured that those to blame for the incident will likely be arrested and promised stringent punishment for them.
