'They look depressed': Sabyasachi trolled for featuring models with 'sad faces' in latest collection
One of the most celebrated and revered fashion designers, known for his exclusive bridal collections, Sabyasachi Mukherjee has been a favourite among every Indian bride. While girls dream about wearing a Sabyasachi lehenga on their wedding day, Bollywood actresses have also been swearing by his collections.
From elaborate anarkalis to bridal-wear sarees and suits, Sabysachi‘s mix of traditional collections features traditional heavy and ethnic Indian bridal wear. However, the designer has often faced trolling for featuring “not so happy” models in his collections. His latest ‘Heritage Bridal 2023′ Collection also became a subject of trolling for the same reason.
The designer brand recently shared the collection on Instagram, stirring divided reactions on social media. While some made jokes about the models’ grave expressions, some also sounded unhappy with the designs and their looks.

The pictures show four models dressed in ornate sarees paired with chunky jewellery. While they had blank expressions on their faces, the models were seen sporting heavy kohled eyes and sunglasses.

Social media users while taking to the comment section shared a series of reactions. A user wrote, “Is this your Mourning collection, Sabyasachi?” while another one wrote, “Why models are looking depressed? Is it a depression collection? Where is bindi? Freedom of expression doesn’t allow anyone to make a mockery of any festivals.”
“It’s looking like all r suffering from some illness or diseased..!!!and admit them to some hospital.!!!!” one of the users commented.
“Are they going to a funeral. The sarees are dull and the girls are without bindi,” a fourth user noted.
In the meantime, the post has garnered over 30,000 likes alongwith several comments.
While a section of users pointed out why the models didn’t have a ‘bindi’, some commented on their depressing and glooming expressions. A user even described them as “Egyptian mummies.”
Notably, this is not the first time that Sabyasachi models were trolled for their “sad looks.” In several past instances, the models in his collections faced extreme criticism and trolling on social media, becoming the subject of memes and jokes.
Despite being so brutally trolled, the popularity among Indian brides for Sabyasachi lehengas continues to remain unbeaten.
