Colors reportedly made an offer of Rs 3.5 crore per episode to the actor. Despite efforts to convince him, Rajesh Khanna remained firm in his decision to claim no the proposal. However, after it slow, he expressed a renewed interest in joining the project. Unfortunately, by then, the channel had moved on and was once now no longer excited by having him on the show.

Ali Peter John shared insights into Rajesh Khanna’s insecurities surrounding the upward thrust of Amitabh Bachchan. He recounted how Khanna would often speak disparagingly about Bachchan to Jaya Bachchan, his future wife, and would intentionally avoid him on film sets. Ironically, Amitabh hosted the third season of Bigg Boss, adding some other layer to their complex relationship.

Reflecting on his last meeting with Khanna, the journalist remembered their encounter just two months before the iconic actor’s passing. At some stage on this poignant moment, Khanna remarked, “Agar Ghalib daaru peekar mar sakta hai, toh main kyon nahin?” (If Ghalib may per chance die after drinking, then why can’t I?)

Khanna passed away on July 18, 2012, after being affected by health issues that began together with his cancer diagnosis in July 2011.
