WatchOS 10.1 finally brings one of the most anticipated Apple Watch features: Double Tap gesture

Apple has unveiled a major software update for its recently launched Apple Watch Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2. The latest watchOS 10.1 patch delivers on the highly anticipated Double Tap gesture, offering users an innovative way to interact with their smartwatches without physically touching the screen.

The Double Tap gesture, initially showcased at Apple’s September launch event, allows wearers to navigate their Apple Watch through simple taps. By using double-tap gestures, users can conveniently snooze alarms, answer calls, initiate timers, manage media playback, and perform other actions.

For added user convenience, the update includes options for customizing the Double Tap gesture. Users can tailor its functionality by visiting Settings > Gestures > Double Tap. Additionally, there is an option to disable this feature altogether from the same menu.

Beyond the Double Tap gesture, watchOS 10.1 introduces NameDrop, a feature that facilitates the seamless exchange of contact information among iPhone and Apple Watch users. NameDrop will be accessible for Apple Watch SE 2, Watch Series 7, and newer models. In addition to these enhancements, the update addresses several bugs in the Apple Watch, promising an improved overall user experience.

In tandem with the watchOS update, Apple has also released a substantial iOS 17.1 update for iPhones. This update caters to iPhone 15 Pro users, allowing them to customise the action button even more, personalize StandBy mode, and leverage the Personalized photo shuffle feature. Moreover, it resolves the 80 per cent charging limit issue, a move aimed at preventing battery overcharging and enhancing battery longevity.

For the Mac community, the macOS Sonoma 14.1 update enhances the Music app with new features and implements various bug fixes to bolster platform stability. Apple enthusiasts can look forward to these updates, which promise to enhance the functionality and user experience across the Apple ecosystem.
