The world of relationships has changed beyond recognition in recent years. People are now becoming more open-minded and willing to try new things. In years gone by, a polyamorous relationship would have been frowned upon, but now things are different. This niche kind of arrangement is unique but is being embraced by millions of people around the world. With the introduction of poly dating sites, it’s easier than ever before for people to meet like-minded people and explore these kinds of relationships. So, what are polyamorous relationships?

WHAT DOES POLYAMOROUS RELATIONSHIP MEAN ?

If you consider yourself polyamorous, then this means that you are open to having a romantic relationship that involves several people. This form of arrangement stretches across all kinds of sexualities, which means that it can be embraced by bisexual, lesbian, and gay singles. In fact, it can include a combination of people with different sexualities.

Ultimately, it is considered to be an arrangement that is not possessive, is honest, and completely ethical. People will decide how many people they want to be involved in the relationship, which means that they do things differently from what’s expected of them.

Polyamory is different to open relationships because there is an emotional attachment as well as intimacy, and so, it is considered completely different from adultery or infidelity, as both partners might look for a third partner at the online dating sites or simply accept that one (or both) of them is dating someone else they love.

In some cases, a polyamorous relationship will come with some element of hierarchy. Therefore, one relationship will take preference over the others, but in some cases, they’re considered equal. In the instances where there is a hierarchy in place, an individual might have a primary partner and additional or secondary partners.

THE PRIMARY PARTNER

The primary partner will sit at the top of the hierarchy. This can be the person you’re married to and have children with, although it’s important to remember that polyamorous relationships don’t require a primary partner.

THE SECONDARY PARTNER

This secondary partner might have no affiliation with your life. So, they might not live under the same roof and might not share finances with you. However, you’re both still committed.

SOME MULTI-PARTNERENED RELATIONSHIP CAN’T BE CALLED POLYAMOROUS

The expectations or boundaries for polyamorous relationships are different when compared to monogamous relationships. As a result, individuals in a polyamorous relationship might or might not be married. In fact, they might not believe in the expectations of conventional marriage and the idea of having one partner only. Therefore, polyamory cannot be compared to bigamy or polygamy as these kinds of arrangements are actually illegal in many countries.

Furthermore, it shouldn’t be considered swinging either as this kind of arrangement is more casual. Additionally, polyamory shouldn’t be seen as an open relationship either.

THE DIFFERENT FORMS OF POLYAMOROUS RELATIONSHIPS

6/6
