When Yash Chopra scolded Rani Mukerji in front of Shah Rukh Khan during 'Veer-Zaara' shoot

It has been almost two decades since Yash Chopra-directed Veer Zaara was released. Featuring actors Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta in the lead roles, the film beautifully portrays the classic story of two lovers who were separated and later united after several years.

While Shah Rukh and Preity outshined as the lead roles, Rani Mukerji also impressed her fans with her remarkable performance as a Pakistani lawyer, who left no stone unturned to unite Veer and Zaara. While the actress did justice to her role, not many know that she even faced scolding at the hands of the director for not being serious on the sets.

It was during her appearance at The Kapil Sharma Show for the promotion of Bunty Aur Babli 2 when the actress recalled the incident, sharing how she was scolded by Yash Chopra.

Mentioning that she was accustomed to playing the role of the lead actress opposite Shah Rukh, it was the first time she played a very young role. There was a huge difference between the characters of Rani and Shahrukh and their relationship was also shown as that of a father and daughter.

Noting that she didn’t get the “pita wali feeling”, Rani said that it became difficult for her to play Shah Rukh’s daughter as she would often end up laughing upon seeing him in white hair. Seeing her, SRK would also burst into laughter, thus disrupting the shoot.

Irked by the same, the late director lost his cool and scolded her in front of everyone, said Rani further adding that it was then that she gave the next shot quite perfectly and left audiences impressed with her performance.

Veer Zaara

Helmed by the late Yash Chopra, Veer-Zaara was a big hit. Featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, and Rani Mukerji in lead roles, the film also has Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Manoj Bajpayee, Kirron Kher, Anupam Kher, and many in prominent roles.

The film also won several accolades including the National Award for the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment in 2005.
