Patna: In a significant development ahead of Bihar Assembly Elections, controversial former Bihar MLA Anant Singh and the current NDA candidate from Mokama seat on a ticket of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) party, was arrested over the death of Jan Suraaj supporter Dular Chand Yadav on Sunday late night. Notably, Dular Chand Yadav died while campaigning for Jan Suraaj Party’s candidate Piyush Priyadarshi in Patna’s Mokama area this week ahead of polling in the state. The incident has again brought limelight to the controversial former Bihar MLA who is also very popular on social media. Who is Anant Singh?
Anant Kumar Singh, also known as Chhote Sarkar is a former MLA from the Bihar’s Mokama assembly constituency. Affiliated with the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) at different times, Anant is a five-time MLA from Mokama seat.
Born in Nadwan village under Barh region in Patna district (Bihar), he first won the Mokama assembly seat in 2005 on a JD(U) ticket. Often described as that of a strongman / “muscle-politician” in the Bihar, Anant is very popular on social media.
Criminal cases against Anant Singh?
In the affidavit filed before the returning officer along with the nomination papers, Singh declared that he has movable assets worth Rs 26.66 crore and immovable ones worth Rs 11.22 crore. As per a PTI report, Singh is facing 28 criminal cases.
Why Anant Singh has been arrested over murder of Jan Suraaj leader?
Notably, Singh was under the scanner since the killing of Yadav and was picked up from his house in Barh, about 200 km from the state capital. As per a PTI report, Senior Superintendent of Police, Patna, Kartikeya Sharma, confirmed the arrest.
