Led by Rohit Sharma, Team India secured their spot in the final with a convincing victory in the semi-finals over New Zealand. Bolstered by a potent batting line-up and one of the best bowling attacks, India stormed into their first World Cup final in 12 years, achieving victory in 10 consecutive matches.

Here we take a look at India’s road to the World Cup final

Match 1: India vs Australia

India, in their World Cup opener, beat Australia by six wickets at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The spinners and then Virat Kohli and KL Rahul played big roles in this victory.

India found momentum as they beat Afghanistan by eight wickets at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. After Jasprit Bumrah picked four wickets as Afghanistan posted 272/8, Rohit Sharma (131) led from the front and Virat Kohli (55*) scored an unbeaten 50 to take the hosts home with eight wickets to spare.

Match 3: India vs Pakistan

A dominant Indian team beat Pakistan by seven wickets in front of a packed house at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was a bowlers’ day out as far as India were concerned, as they restricted Pakistan to 191. In reply, Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer scored fifties to help India clinch a seven-wicket win.

Match 4: India vs Bangladesh

The Indian juggernaut kept rolling as they beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in Pune. Virat Kohli struck his first century of the 2023 World Cup to help India chase down 261 with seven wickets remaining.

The Indian team were pushed and challenged but they had enough depth to beat New Zealand by four wickets in Dharamsala.

Match 6: India vs England

The Indian batters struggled, but the bowlers stepped up and put up a masterclass as the hosts beat defending champions England by 100 runs in Lucknow. India were restricted to 229/9 after some fine bowling from David Willey and the pacers. England, though, never really got going as Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami shared seven wickets between them to rattle the defending champions out for 129.

Match 7: India vs Sri Lanka

India pacer Mohammad Shami excelled with figures of 5/18 as India dismantled Sri Lanka for 55 runs to win the league stage fixture by 302 runs in Mumbai.
