World Cup 2023: India retain top spot in ODI rankings after Pakistan win

Pakistan had an opportunity to not just end their miserable losing streak against India in World Cups when they met in Ahmedabad but also leapfrog them in the ICC ODI Rankings. However that didn’t prove to be the case, by a long shot, as India won by a convincing seven-wicket margin with 117 balls to spare.

The win ensured India remain unbeaten in the tournament and at the top of the points table, edging New Zealand on net run rate with both teams on six points.

It also meant occupied India continue to lead the ICC ODI Rankings with Pakistan holding onto their second place and South Africa in third spot.

Australia, who have suffered two defeats on the bounce, are fourth and desperate to turn things around at the World Cup.

New Zealand make up the top five in the ODI Rankings, with defending World Cup champions England sixth.

India’s next assignment in the World Cup is a clash against Bangladesh on Thursday while Pakistan would be keen on bouncing back against Australia on Friday.
